A couple of short updates on domestic abuse:
On Thursday 22nd November, Baroness Thornton (Labour), will be asking the following question in the House of Lords:
- how much of the NHS mental health budget goes towards intervention to address domestic and sexual violence and abuse
Domestic Violence Protection Notices and Orders
This article from Community Care outlines give a summary on Domestic Violence Protection Notices (DVPNs) and Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVPOs) are provided for by sections 24 to 33 of the Crime and Security Act 2010.
DVPNs and DVPOs are part of a number of different preventive options designed to keep victims safe and give them some breathing space by giving them a temporary respite from the abusive behaviour and allowing access and referral to support services without interference from the perpetrator.
The Queen's Speech 2017 promises a draft Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill, and measures in the Courts Bill to deal with suspects cross examining victims. This Briefing Paper from the House of Commons Library looks at the background.
