A Lived Experience: Seminar on Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control with Luke and Ryan Hart | 9 & 16 January 2020
Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board is delighted to welcome Luke and Ryan Hart back to Norfolk! Luke and Ryan visited us in April and May 2019 and told their story of growing up in a family in which their father bullied them as children and harassed and oppressed the rest of the family on a daily basis. This bullying and control ended when their father fatally shot Luke and Ryan's mother and sister in a leisure centre car park in Lincolnshire, before killing himself.
We invite you to attend one of two FREE* seminars where you will have the opportunity to listen to their story and ask questions. Early booking for these seminars is strongly advised (see Board Manager's blog, September 2019). During the seminar Luke & Ryan will:
- examine the features of coercive control with domestic abuse: what does the research tell us? This will include the gendered nature of coercive control and the beliefs that drive the perpetrator’s behaviour
- explore the narratives around abuse which help to articulate why victims’ behaviour is rational, once you understand the constraints they are under
- consider how to understand the perpetrator's behaviour
