Update on the Domestic Abuse Bill
The Domestic Abuse Bill was discussed during four days of its Report Stage over the last two weeks in the House of Lords.
Peers scrutinised amendments which included:
- access to Universal Credit,
- the role of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner, and
- the training of public authorities on domestic abuse issues, amongst other issues.
The Government successfully introduced an amendment which would require the learning from Domestic Homicide Reviews to be shared at a national level and for this to be part of the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s remit.
Several other amendments also passed, such as amendments on the provision of community-based support for victims of domestic abuse and to keep a register on stalkers.
The Bill now progresses to Third Reading, which will be held on Wednesday 24 March.
