Ministers urged to halt deprivation of liberty bill because of ‘threat to human rights’

Last week over 100 social care, disability and older people’s organisations have called for the government to pause the bill that would replace the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) on the grounds that it poses a threat to human rights.

In an open letter to social care ministers, the group said it had serious concerns about the content and passage of the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill, which would create a new framework, called the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS), to protect people deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act.
