Loneliness & safeguarding

This week the Marmalade Trust is hosting Loneliness Awareness Week (15th to 19th June). The Marmalade Trust, offers a vital link between lonely people and the communities and resources that can help them. Loneliness has become a genuine challenge for many during the past few months of lockdown (also remembering that for some, this was a fact of life long before Covid-19 impacted on our county). Please do have a look at the Marmalade Trust website and take a moment to think about people in our communities who may be alone and how they can continue to be supported as we start to move forward.

Norfolk County Council's In Good Company campaign - No one should spend a lonely day in Norfolk if they don’t want to - gives information about how everyone can support and get involved to tackle loneliness in Norfolk. When you’ve pledged, share your support on Twitter using #NoLonelyDay.

A lack of social support is widely cited as a risk factor for elder abuse, See Jennifer Storey's (School of Law, Royal Holloway University of London, Egham, Surrey, UK) article Risk factors for elder abuse and neglect: A review of the literature. Aggression and Violent Behavior, Volume 50, January–February 2020.
