Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Dame Sara Thornton, has recently published a new paper urging the police to prioritise financial investigation of modern slavery and human trafficking crimes. Victim evidence is often unavailable in this sort of crime but financial evidence, alongside other techniques such as communications data and digital forensics can be very helpful in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Dame Sara believes that there is a lot of potential to exploit financial data to build the evidence case against the traffickers and abusers.
