Domestic homicide: eight steps
Criminology expert, Dr Jane Monckton Smith, has identified eight steps that appear in almost every domestic homicide. The steps include coercive control and a trigger, such as the break-up of the relationship, and later move on to the planning stage, where the perpetrator may be purchasing weapons or looking at ways to get the victim alone.
It is hoped that this model will be rolled out more widely. If the police can learn these eight steps then they can keep track on potential perpetrators.
