Connecting communities to tackle loneliness and social isolation

The British Red Cross recently published research that found that over nine million people in the UK say they’re often or always lonely; loneliness affects people of all ages; life changes, such as becoming a parent, retirement, health  changes, loss of mobility, divorce or bereavement are key triggers for loneliness.

The British Red Cross and Co-op have been working in a Charity Partnership since 2015 to tackle loneliness and social isolation in the UK. To address these challenges the British Red Cross and Co-op launched almost 40 new Community Connector services across the UK to reconnect people who are experiencing loneliness back to their communities.

A learning programme brought together more than 50 loneliness-combating programmes found that reaching the most isolated people and the stigma surrounding loneliness were also prime issues facing services.
