2025

We had a change in chairs this year with Tom joining Sam steering the Northern LSAP!

The 10 minute member briefing in July was from our colleague in the Norfolk Library and Information Service, and gave us an overview of all the things they are involved in that link with safeguarding - it was quite an eye-opener!

It included an overview of their safeguarding leads, safeguarding data, and some case examples too - for example:

"Customer dropped off at the library with clothes that were too big and falling down. Customer was left all day with no means of getting food or drink. When staff called the care home they told them they would call a taxi but it would be at least 1.5 hours. Staff offered mugshots hot drink biscuits etc. Staff felt care home were not looking after the customers needs so reported to MASH."

2024

In March 2024 the discussion at NLSAP members was around around 'Raising a concern'.

We talked about the role and responsibilities of safeguarding leads and the training opportunities available.

The challenges of supporting people who are suicidal or at risk of harm – advice and information shared among the group.

The positive impact of collaboration, and feedback from safeguarding enquiries.

The prevalence of financial abuse and fraud, especially romance fraud in the local area.

Positive use of the resources and guidance on the NSAB website and how to raise a safeguarding concern. 

2023

The meeting in September covered ideas around neglect and self-neglect - we talked about the challenges of working with people who don’t want support, how risk can go unseen or be ‘lost’. Assertive outreach takes time, and entrenched mental health needs can be very difficult to address.

Discussion around approach to child neglect using Norfolk Graded Profile – many people feel safeguarding can be more ‘clear cut’ working with children – working with adults means increased complexity in situations especially around mental capacity.

2022

The meeting in January had to be cancelled due to operational pressures in the local area.

In March, the partnership had a very engaged discussion following a presentation on DHR Daisy, with colleagues keen to share further in team / reflective practice / collaboration meetings, with a particular focus on supporting carers.
