State of Care 2020-21 published

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published its annual assessment of health care and social care in England for 2020-21. The report looks at the trends, shares examples of good and outstanding care, and highlights where care needs to improve.

In section 3 the CQC highlights ongoing quality concerns include risk of closed cultures. It says in services with have closed cultures people

'are more likely to be at risk of deliberate or unintentional harm. This risk has been further exacerbated during the pandemic by more services becoming closed environments due to a lack of visitors, and from the potential impacts of staffing and management pressures.' Pg 52

Report goes on to say:

'Through our reviews of high-risk mental health services, as well as through engaging with others to hear from people who have had experience of closed cultures, we are concerned that people continue to be put at risk' Pg 54
