Safe Spaces: new support service for adult victims of church abuse

A new support service has been launched for adult victims of church abuse, both historic and recent.  The project is jointly funded by the Anglican and Catholic churches but run independently by the charity Victim Support.

It is a free and independent support service providing a confidential, personal and safe space for anyone abused through their relationship with the Church of England, the Catholic Church of England and Wales or the Church in Wales.

Trained support advocates have undergone specialist training in supporting survivors of sexual violence.  They have also received additional specific training in how the churches respond to abuse cases, including the way that church and faith settings have been used to carry out abuse.
