Liberty Protection Safeguards Briefing Sessions: Summer 2019 with St Thomas Training

As many of you will be aware, the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill was passed by Parliament on 24th April 2019, and is now awaiting the Royal Assent. This means that the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) will be replaced with the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) on a date to be specified, most likely Autumn 2020.

To help you understand the new system of LPS, St Thomas Training are running a series of briefing sessions in various locations around England and Wales during the Summer of 2019 - Norfolk's session is on:

  • Wednesday 3rd July 2019: Dereham Town Football Club, Norfolk

The sessions will be delivered by Tim Spencer-Lane, a lawyer who led the Law Commission’s review of DoLS during 2015-17. He has subsequently been seconded to the Department of Health & Social Care where he has been working on the Liberty Protection Safeguards.

The LPS will apply from age 16, and in all settings (residential, hospital, community etc). The Bill as passed by Parliament is based on the Law Commission's original proposals of March 2017, but those proposals have been significantly amended along the way.

This is a not to be missed session. The price is £60.00 plus VAT per person. Places are limited, so we advise you to book now to avoid disappointment. You can book online by PayPal, or credit/debit card or (if you are part of a large organisation) by invoice.

Please note this is not a NSAB organised event.
