Consultation on the forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill
On 8th March, the Home Office launched a consultation on the forthcoming Domestic Abuse Bill. The consultation focused on four key themes intended to prevent domestic abuse:
- promoting awareness
- enhancing the safety of victims and the support they receive
- an effective response to perpetrators, including conviction and rehabilitation and
- driving consistency and improving performance in the response to domestic abuse across all local areas and agencies.
The consultation set out the Government’s initial thinking on the new Domestic Abuse Commissioner role. It is hoped the Government will seek to replicate the partnership approach fostered by the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner Kevin Hyland.
