Broadland Council tackling phone scamming with call blockers
Broadland District Council's project to help protect vulnerable people from financial scamming via telephones is making a very positive impact.
The scheme, running since October 2017, using money from the Community Safety budget, has brought 12 telephones with built-in True Call system technology. Residents who would benefit from the call blockers are identified by the Handyperson Plus Officer and so far 6 units have been installed for vulnerable individuals who have been receiving lots of telephone ‘cold calls’.
Here's the impressive bit. The approximate cost for each single unit is £32 and £60 for the double unit. The average level of financial loss to victims of scams is £3k. A great piece of proactive low cost safeguarding adults work. The council will be looking to evaluate the project in the coming months.
